Peter Brown, Protecting Your Tax Dollars
June 10, 2009
Today, Peter introduced a number of amendments to the proposed city budget, in an effort to help the city meet its financial obligations, cut crime and protect taxpayers. He’s also strongly supporting a proposed 2% cut of City Council office budgets, including his own.
“I believe we’ve got to use taxpayer dollars in the most responsible way possible,” said Councilman Brown, “Houston families are tightening their belts, and our city government has got to as well.”
KHOU 11 also picked up the story,
Council Member Peter Brown, who is running for mayor, said the City Council should be willing to cut its own budget.
He also outlined other ways to save money, such as outsourcing some of the maintenance for police cars.
Peter announced his proposals yesterday at a press conference in front of City Hall, where he stressed the importance of building a more efficient and effective city government while fully funding critical city services.

As he said yesterday, “we need to use our resources smarter and more efficiently, but we’ve got to uphold our commitments to the citizens of the City of Houston. It would be completely irresponsible to cut off vitally needed resources for essential services such as police, fire and infrastructure.”
