City Council Member Views Medical Innovations at Methodist
HOUSTON, TX, Monday, April 20, 2009
Houston City Council Member Peter Brown (At Large, Position 1) joined a group of visitors to The Methodist Hospital on April 17 to get a behind-the-scenes look at the hospital’s ongoing research and medical care innovations.
Council Member Brown, an architect, city planner and 2009 Houston mayoral candidate, joined civic leaders, board members and others with an interest in health care at Methodist’s monthly Leadership Grand Rounds.
"The Methodist Hospital, one of Houston's strongest assets, brings international recognition to our city. It provides an invaluable service to Houstonians, and as well, serves to attract an extraordinarily talented workforce," said Council Member Brown.
The grand rounds event at Methodist is an exclusive, physician-led, behind-the-scenes look into the work that goes on at the hospital every day. Guests are offered a glimpse into medical advances and technology currently being developed.
Leadership Grand Rounds was created to give members of the community a unique opportunity to learn in detail about the health care industry and Methodist’s impact on the future of patient care.
The guests were given a glimpse at surgery with commentary by cardiac surgery chief Dr. Michael Reardon; they heard an overview of activities at The Methodist Hospital Research Institute from co-director Dr. Michael Lieberman; and they toured the Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation and Education (MITIE) with a commentary from institute medical director Dr. Brian Dunkin.
